Supervision in Coaching - how Coaches enable people to transform!

Thanks to everyone for a brilliant supervision session this morning.  It was wonderful to have such a positive, constructive and professional discussion about Coaching and how we enable people to transform, through our Coaching and NLP skills.

I was reminded of how as a young woman in my early 20's, I was frustrated by lots of trainers, gurus, writers offering their perspective on life transformations.  My frustration came when I realised that they were not able to explain HOW we make personal transformations.  I generally have a quest or two lurking up my sleeve and of course my quest at that time in my life was to find the HOW!!

Through a constant exploration and finding excellent people to learn from, discuss and debate with, I found the HOW for many things.  I love that our Simply Changing Diploma in Coaching is full of really practical information, tools and techniques and I love that we make learning them so easy.  Infact I have just been emailed by one of our Developing Coaches (i.e. one of the people on our programme) and she tells me that she was amazed that when she went home after Module 1, she could explain to family and friends all the tools and techniques that we used!!  Fabulous!!

The supervision webinar this morning was full of great discussion about how Coaching is affected by Projection and Transference and how as a Coach being aware of our thoughts and feelings means we are able to be truly effective for our Coachees and bring about lasting and sustainable change.

There are many stories told everyday which demonstrate projection and transference and one of the Developing Coaches at Simply Changing works with Head Teachers.  Her name is Sally Bishop and she works within education, Coaching Head Teachers and Department Heads, she tells us that for the education sector 'It's coaching, but not as we know it', because many people in education believe that mentoring is coaching.  Sally is thrilled with HOW we do things here at Simply Changing and is driven by a passion to set the record straight and enable schools to understand what coaching is and HOW it can transform education.   Anyway, back to the orginal story.  Sally was telling us of a new teacher who was reacting in a cautious almost nervous way in their first few meetings.  Overtime, it was revealed that the Sally's new teacher had expected Sally to be the same as her previous Head and was responding in an overly cautious way.   This kind of transference can affect how we respond to people and it can affect relationships both short and long term, so understanding Transference is so very important!  Luckily Sally being the skilled person she is recognised the signs and remedied the situation.  Phew!!  Well done Sally!

We here at Simply Changing train our Coaches to pick up on signals like this and enable you to be the best Coach you can be!!  We'd love for you to join us!!
