Introducing Swish

Swish works to change the motivation/driver/compulsion to do something. So that instead of repeatedly finding yourself carrying out the same behaviour, you find yourself doing something different.

So imagine…….

  • instead of finding yourself watching hours of television to relax, you are finding yourself reading a good book
  • instead of reaching for that bar of chocolate you reach for a piece of fruit
  • instead of rushing around at the last minute to prepare for a business meeting, you prepare well ahead of time
  • OK….. so your challenge now is to think of behaviours that could be changed in and around the workplace

Swish works by harnessing the compelling feeling associated with doing something unwanted or unhelpful or unresourceful. Capturing that compelling feeling and re-directing the energy behind it to a more helpful, resourceful and desired behaviour. It works by recognising the moment just before you are going to take that final step, interuppting it and setting in place a new final action.
For this to work it is really useful to explore and enhance the submodalities (the inner sounds, feelings, smells, tastes and images). Get the submodalities exactly where you want them so that they are amazing and you are really re-living the experience. Remember that the sub-conscious mind cannot tell the difference between reality and imagination and the better you enhance your submodalities the more real and therefore the more notice your sub-conscious will take of your new behaviour.
