Get Some Balance In Your Life

Look at this amazing photograph taken during my recent visit to Rwanda with The Goboka Rwanda Trust    https://sites.google.com/site/gobokarwandatrust/home

A picture paints a thousand words and this picture certainly does that!!

In Rwanda people walk miles to cultivate their land and take their produce to market.  Whilst in Rwanda, we were travelling at 4.30am one morning and the roads and villages were alive with people going about their daily business, travelling to work, pushing bicycles laiden with produce.

This fabulous photograph of a lady balancing a very heavy piece of equipment on her head leads me to share with you some background about Rwanda.  After the genocide of 1994, the government ordered that people live alongside main roads and not in their rural homes.  This meant that people had to move from their rural homes and therefore lived a good distance, often many miles from their land, so they walked to their land to grow their crops and tend their animals.  After a few years the government realised that this idea didn't work well and reversed the decision.  Some people returned home and many others couldn't afford to, so the legacy of that decision means people still walk miles every day.

So, what do we see here at Simply Changing in this photograph?  We see a woman who is 'working with' her environment.  She understands the weight and balance of the heavy implement she carries.  She know's 'how' to balance this safely and securely. We see a woman who is present and mindful of the task in hand.  A woman walking with balance and poise.

On a very busy day here at Simply Changing, with many projects and tasks to carry out, contemplating this photo has reminded us to ground ourselves and be present, mindfully working through our day.

Feel free to share what this photograph means to you - as we said, 'A picture paints a thousand words'.
