SimplyChanging With Horses
Here’s my story regarding coaching with horses.
I met my now great friend and associate Roz Watkins when I was delivering a coaching programme a number of years ago. Roz was a student on my programme at that time and was very interested in learning how she could coach people in leadership involving horses.
I eagerly agreed to help Roz map out a horse related coaching process. Needless to say I became completely hooked. We switched our roles and I became the student. She is a very skilled horsewoman with a vast knowledge and tremendous skill in natural horsemanship. Roz introduced me to Natural Equine Methods and because I became so deeply interested, I now own a beautiful thoroughbred ex-racer.
The process of re-training my horse, Monty, into Natural Equine methods has been very rewarding. I have been privileged enough to experience things from
his
point of view -
his
thought processes, drivers and fears etc. I have also been able to experience first-hand how working with horses opens up a world of self-reflection and understanding.
In my work with horses, what amazed me was how much I could recognise that the process of working with horses in this way, mirrors who we are as human beings.
It is directly related to who we are and the many roles we perform; partner, sibling, carer, parent, colleague etc - all roles, in fact, which involve understanding, perspective, rapport, negotiation, influencing and where good clear communication is required
